Also be sure that the trusted person knows that they are nominated and wants to do it. Life gets messy if they refuse.

And if the executor isn't already a beneficiary, leave them something in the will. It's not fair to expect someone to do all the work for nothing.

Gosh what a lot of fascinating ground has been covered on this thread.

The idea of entering into a same sex civil partnership never entered my head. I think it could cause problems for my heiress because what if she wanted to marry a man, before I die? (I assume you cannot be in a same sex CP AND a regular old fashioned marriage at the same time.)

I want to leave everything I have to this one person. I'm thinking this should be quite simple. I haven't seen anything yet that convinces me that getting a will made by a lawyer is any better than writing one on a pre-printed will form that has lots of guidance notes. I've bought one (£4) but haven't opened it yet to read the notes and fill it in, so let's hope I don't die in the night!

If you are going down that route, don't just rely on the notes on the form - at least read the Which? book - Wills and Probate. You should be able to borrow it from the local library but make sure it's the latest edition.
