Looking at getting Debt Free...

Hi Guys,
So, on another note to my other post, I am looking at getting debt free...
I have paid for Experian for the month so that I know what I owe to who... but I am confused...
I have a number of defaults (4) but I am sure I should have more... Also, ones that I know I have not paid eg. £5,652 to Natwest is settled 13/03/2011 but I have not made any payments and there is no other lender on my credit report for this amount. How can I sort these debts out if I dont know who to pay?
Also, for the defaulted ones, will these now be sold or can I make arrangements with the original lender to sort these out?
Trying to create payment plans, even if they are small as I am a student... I have a job for only the next 4 weeks but still. Time to hold my hands up and sort this out instead of burying my head in the sand.
Any help please?
Thanks,
Rikki

There are 3 credit reference agencies, Experian, Equifax, and noddle(call credit) which is free to use.
Lenders may use one, two, or all three of these.
Best to check them all.

Debts sometimes show as settled when they are not if the debt has been sold to a debt collector who either reports to a different credit agency, or does not report to an agency at all.
If you have just got copies of your credit files you will likely find creditors/debt collectors will start to write to you and it may be better just to tackle them as they do.
You mention there should be more defaults than there are - could any of those be over 6years old and so have dropped off your file?
And could any of your debts be statute barred? (more than 6years since you paid them/or wrote to them)?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
