Hello
Just wondered if anyone is planning on a wedding dress that isn't white or ivory? Or if you got married in a dress that wasn't white or ivory? We're getting married next year and I've seen a lovely dress in a grape colour but I don't like it in ivory. Would just be interested in other peoples thoughts? Or do you have any photos if you went for a different colour?

My sister tried on a couple of coloured dresses and very nearly went for a coffee-coloured dress, which looked absolutely lovely on her.
I personally think you should go for it - it's your wedding, you should wear a dress you like and stuff what colour it is!"A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge." - Tyrion LannisterMarried my best friend 1st November 2014Loose = the opposite of tight (eg "These trousers feel a little loose")Lose = the opposite of find/gain (eg "I'm going to lose weight this year")0 -
I had a dress that had an ivory skirt and dark red bodice worn with a full length red coat over the top (got married in December). I found all the white/ivory dresses very same-y. Show us a pic of the grape one.0

This was my wedding dress http://www.joyceyoungcollections.co.uk/collections/tartan-weddings/heritige/
I had so many complements on how different it was but still a little bit traditional.
I think coloured dress hope you to show your taste and indiviuality I am so glad I went with mine nowFirst Date 08/11/2008, Moved In Together 01/06/2009, Engaged 01/01/10, Wedding Day 27/04/2013, Baby Moshie due 29/06/2019 :T0 -
I didn't want a white/ivory dress either - I'm making mine of a two tone silk taffeta in a pale spring green shot with pearl grey. It's also embroidered and beaded in spring green. It's got a beaded copper net underskirt & train to match the copper belt and jewellery I'll be wearing. At first my mum & sisters said "Oh No!, it won't look like a wedding dress" etc etc etc, but now it's almost finished, they think it's lovely.
As long as it suits you, flatters you and feels more 'special' than anything you'd usually wear then that counts as a bona fide wedding dress in my opinion - whatever colour it is.
White has only been common for brides since Victorian times anyway, before that, a bride just wore a fancier version of her usual clothes - white was usually for mourning clothes! Also, at various times in Britain's history, the traditional colour for brides has changed between, yellow, green, red, blue and probably others as well. In the Middle Ages the 'traditional' colours were crimson, purple & royal blue - so your grape dress is traditional tooDon’t try to keep up with the Jones’s. They are broke!0 -
I can't work out how to post a photo! I'll later from a laptop."Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could only do a little." Edmund Burke

I originally wanted to wear purple; in the end my dress was silver with my BM in purple. I had purple shoes though
