Is it just me who is a bit confused by what's actually on offer here ? The banner headline on the link you provide says 13%, but then in the T&C on the same page it says

The 11% discount will be available from 13 June 2014, and will remain in place until England are out of the tournament. Outward travel can be between 13 June and 22 August 2014, with the return portion available for use up to 1 month after the outward travel date.

Within 48 hours of England’s departure from the tournament, the discount will increase by 1% for every goal scored, excluding penalties during a penalty shoot-out. This will run for a further 7 days, until 4th July 2014.

By my reckoning there have been 9 goals so far in the 'round of 16' so are we now down to a 4% or 2 % discount (depending on whether the starting point is 13% as at the top of the page or 11% as per the T&C) ?

If the discount increases with every goal won't it be 20 or 22% discount? And increasing as further goals are scored. Sounds too good to be true.

This only relates to the England team, who scored a rather sad 2 goals over their whole time in the tournament:

    http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/statistics/teams/goal-scored.html

11% was the offer when it started, and when England got kicked out it increased to 13%. That offer stays in place for 7 days from the last day they were in the tournament. So that's until 4th July.

If only the Dutch team were ours, eh? They have scored 12 so far.

Also, I used the discount today - just paid £29.05 for an off-peak return for Northampton - London and £19.20 for the same with my railcard*. Usual price £33.40.

*railcard is in my name, so hubby traveling on a different day can't use it!

Doh! thanks wishus and martinbdow - I'd misread 'increase' for 'decrease' and not realised it was just England goals - thanks for making it clear :-)
