Cooking courses specially designed for children

In partnership with the Children’s Food Trust, Farm to Fork Cooking courses will help children understand where their food comes from and equip them with the skills and passion to cook, by exploring different recipes and ingredients in a fun and interactive way.

We want the next generation to have a healthier and happier relationship with food. To make this change, we are working to give them the tools they need to live a healthy life and make better decisions about what they put on their plates when they grow up. That’s why we’ve launched The Tesco Eat Happy Project.

Our Farm to Fork initiative is the first step we’re taking to get children interested in where their food comes from. Primary school children are already able to visit our largest stores to enjoy a fun and educational Farm to Fork Trail and our partners are helping them get even closer to where their food comes from by inviting them onto their farms, factories and fisheries.

The Tesco Eat Happy Project will continue to evolve over time and Farm to Fork Cooking is our way of helping the next generation develop skills that will last a lifetime.

Let’s teach our children to Eat Happy

About the Courses
Farm to Fork cooking courses have been created in conjunction with our partner, the Children’s Food Trust, who run Let’s Get Cooking, the largest network of cookery clubs across the UK. They have a wealth of experience in setting up healthy cooking clubs for children and their families.

The Children’s Food Trust is a national charity protecting every child’s right to eat better and so, to do better. Their vision is that all children have the balanced diet, cooking skills and food education they need for good health and to reach their potential.

How much is the course?
The courses are free. Places are limited and on a first come first served basis. You must attend all three sessions on three consecutive days.

How do I book?
You will need to register on the website to book onto a course, this only requires an e-mail address. You can then search the locations and course dates and book a place for your child, by filling in a simple booking form. You can log back in to view the courses you have booked.

What will my child learn to cook?
The courses will vary by age, but each of them is designed to give your child the cooking skills and confidence to recreate the recipes at home, and the passion to explore other recipes in the future. Don’t worry if your child has no previous cooking experience, this is not necessary to take part in one of our courses. Each of the courses will be based upon simple, tasty and healthy recipes to create well-balanced meals.

Who is running the course on the day?
Experienced home economists from the Children’s Food Trust will be running the courses. They have been specially trained by the Children’s Food Trust, and are approved to work with children.

Where are the courses being held?
We’ll be running the courses in 50 different Tesco stores across the UK, and they will be held in a partitioned off area of the caf!.

Does a parent or guardian need to be there?
Children under 8 will need an adult to accompany them, but we promise a fun and memorable learning experience to enjoy together. Children aged 8 to 13 can attend unaccompanied. If you have a child attending an 8-10 year course we will use a password system for you to sign them in and out of the course. Children over 11 years can sign themselves in and out of the course, although a password system can be requested via the home economist running the course if you prefer.

How long do the courses last?
Each course consists of three separate sessions over three consecutive days, at the same time each day. Each session is two hours long.

Does my child need to bring anything with them?
We’ll provide all the ingredients for the course so you don’t need to worry about bringing anything along. We will also give each child an apron to use for the duration of the cookery course, which they get to keep. For adults accompanying younger children, we will provide aprons for them too, to use on the day.

How do the courses vary by age group?
All the recipes and skills required to cook them have been tailored to ensure they are appropriate to the age of the children attending.
