Who remembers that AWESOME woman?

Who remembers that woman Kath Kelly who lived on £1 per day for a year?
Well I read a few articles about her a while back and have again this evening. I also started using You Need a Budget yesterday. I thought hmmm interesting. I wonder if I could live on £1 per day using this software to help me budget things. So far I seem to be doing rather well.
We don't really need to do this. We are already now paying extra off on our debts but I thought wherever money can be saved to get us out of debt sooner then I'm happy to try! We do have £6,222.45 in credit card debts we want to clear by spring 2015.
I have catered in breakfasts, lunches and dinners and odd snacks and treats. I have also added my main toiletries. I still have £6.84 for the month ahead (when I start). This will help to figure out what else I can add if I still feel a bit hungry. There's also items I will not use up in a month. Like 160 teabags at £1.79 will last me over 10 months if I have 1 tea everyday and reuse the teabag again the next day. This means a whopping saving of £16.11! That'll help me with other odds and sods.
This price also includes an hour a day on the PC for electric use. I will get some 'free' entertainment in the evening because my husband will be watching TV. That's not my problem the energy bill has gone higher
I'm not planning a year for now. I'm just planning ONE MONTH and then I'll see how I feel then. I would like to do it longer and even try to live on last months wages through You Need a Budget on my £1 a day method. I plan to start on payday. Which will be Tuesday 8th July.
Excited
I will try to come back here and give updates on progress. Have stuck a reminder on my planner.:j

Yes, I read her book and was impressed with her project to spend just £1 a day after accommodation costs.
I recollect, though, that it was very time intensive - she had to cycle everywhere, perform a lot of research to find free social events, time to browse for bargains in the supermarket. Having said that, I think she worked part-time.
There is also a book out by a guy who didn't spend any money for a year. He lived in a donated caravan and boiled foraged herbs for tea. I forget the name of the book. He really enjoyed it, found it made him fitter.0 -
I thought her book was very good on free social things - checking out free lectures, volunteering at a local theatre, that sort of thing. It was pretty tight though and about 4 years ago so maybe you should up the budget a bit. IIRC she didn't have home internet or a telly and her fuel bills were included in her rent.0

Hi,
Why not try doing no spend days? I try to get in at least 2 per week but it's more difficult for me since I've a back injury and doing a big food shop is tricky but a couple of no spend days are dead easy if you know what you have and plan in advance

Hi. Just read the whole book today! What a great read. I don't think I would be able to manage all her free evenings out as we live in a small town not a city. BUT, considering it for a month or two! Theres four of us though (2 adults and 2 children) so would need to think of the rules carefully first.£2 Savers club £0/£150
1p a day £/0 -
I do remember her and she managed to save £10k! She paid for her accomodation 12 months in advance and got a lot of freebies along the way
