My brother is staying with us for a few months, and while working from home he drinks A LOT of instant coffee. I am a tea drinker and know nothing about instant coffee. Any coffee I have in the house is the filter stuff as I don't like instant. I am shocked by the prices of instant coffee, and the rate brother is going through it! I have seen brands other than Nescafe that are so much cheaper, but I am worried they will be rubbish tasting. Could any of you coffee drinkers recommend anything that is reasonably priced but drinkable?
No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!

Hi shandyclover.
Are you saying you currently buy Nescafe for your brother?
I haven't tried any own brand coffee so can't recommend but I used to be Tetley drinker who went on to drink Twinings everyday. I bought Douwe Egberts coffee as it was on offer and now, I drink more coffee than tea!
I only buy the coffee on offer (and refill packs) Currently, buying the jar is cheaper than the refill!

I like Aldi's Columbian instant. Think it's £1.89 a 100 gram jar at the moment.0

Tell him to buy his own!!!0

I like Nescafe, I tried cheaper ones, but they were HORRIBLE. As said above, tell him to bring his own. Anyone coming to my house has to bring their own tea bags, I don't drink tea.

Most coffees cheaper than Nescafe are horrid but I dont like Nescafe much either. I usually buy Kenco or those tins like Millicano. Kenco so refill pouches which are often on offer at £3 ish against the £5 is for a big jar."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

I don't like cheap coffee either, as in cheap granules, only freeze dried.
The co-op do a cheap freeze dried coffee that was £1.29 (100g jar) when I bought it last week, I like it, at that price it's worth trying.
Sains' own brand Gold Roast is even better, and it's on offer right now.

Buy an assortment from B&M & usual supermarket value instants (no more than a few quid's worth) and explain that if finds one he likes, you'll try to keep it in stock for him, but if none of these are acceptable to his palate he will have to sort his own...
(I have an assortment of small jars for guests but we're a mostly tea & squash household! Whereas my parents are coffee both caff & decaf *&* like a tipple, so the housekeeping's taking a clout...)0 -
'Hey sis, there is no coffee in'
'No Bro, we don't drink it, you'll have to go buy some'
