Extended Probation

Options
If my employer decides to extend my probation because they have been too busy to train me properly but they do so after I've signed a contract and the original probation has finished, is that legal?

What element of the contract chages on completion of the probation.
    (notice, pay etc)

if nothing then it makes no difference.

What were the terms defining the completion of the probation.

probation is purly contractual there is no statutory framework.

    yup agreed.

Probation is subjective to the employer. For example in the company I work in, it isnt unheard of that they will extend the probation time to more than six months which they have done for a few people.

Unfortunately they normally do this when they arent happy with your work.

    hope that helps.

My contract stated that probation lasted 6 months. Ergo, at the end of 6 months then you'd passed unless notified prior to that. Of course though, an employer is within their rights to dismiss people for many reasons long after that ... So the question is whether to make a fuss of it, or whether to sit down constructively with then and agree (and document) what both sides need to do in order to allow probation to be passed.
