Maternity Pay - underpaid

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can help here.

My Baby is due on the 30th June and I have been on Maternity leave since the 9th June.

I get paid at the end of each month (sometimes a couple of days in advance).

I earn £2400 per month after tax and have been working for my Employer for 3 years. I received this same pay right up until the end of May.

I receive no other benefits from the company (no pension etc).

My pay for this month is only £1600. I thought that I was entitled to receive 90% for the first 6 weeks of maternity leave, plus I have worked the first 8 dayss of June.

I think I have been underpaid, can anyone please help confirm how much I should be receiving after tax?

Many thanks for your help x

BTW I'm only entitled to statutory maternity pay with this company.

Cannot predict exact net as SMP is based on gross pay, but appears low on the details that have been given. SMP is worked out on your earnings roughly for the two months that end 15 weeks before your baby is due. Where there any low earnings during this time? Other than this speak to your payroll dept. they should be able to explain exactly what is happening.

    Thanks Chrisbur,

There have been no low/part pay months, just £2500 net each month right up until the start of maternity.

Gross is approximately £3166.00 per month.

Unfortunately there is no payroll department to speak to, just the Boss and her dubious calculations!

On the figures that you have given I would expect to see a minimum net figure of about £2035. This is what you would get if four weeks SMP were paid. I have assumed for this figure that the months are being divided into 4 week months and 5 week months and this is a 4 week month if the payments were being spread evenly it would be higher. Also this takes no account of any wages owed at the beginning of the month again this would make it higher. So £1600 certainly appears wrong. Do you get any breakdown of the gross or have you had any advice of SMP rate?
In the first instance you need to query this with your employer if they do not give a satisfactory explanation you can then go to HMRC about it, details here....
