When you say the roof needs replacing is that the bathroom ceiling or your actual house roof? If its the ceiling in the bathroom I highly doubt its going to be 5k just for that.
I would be looking at 0% super balance credit cards or 0% purchse credit cards if your builders etc take credit cards. That is if your bathroom refurb isn't going to be too much money and apart from the roof thing I can't see it being a lot of money for what you want to do. If it is the house roof that needs work then a loan is the best option.
I too am looking to redo my bathroom but am either going to save or do the 0% CC route.0
