Changing names on deeds when remortgaging

Hello

We are on a 2 year fix with Clydesdale bank that ends in September. We have been accepted for a new mortgage with First Direct.

At the moment, it is only my name on the mortgage, and the deeds. However, when we remortgage, the mortgage will be in both of our names, and the deeds will need to be as well.

What do I need to do to get the name change done? Is it best to just ask the solicitor who is handling the remortgage to do this? Actually do you even need a solicitor for a remortgage???

Thanks in advance
Christian

Transfer of equity is the name of the process. It will need to be handled by a solicitor especially as it will involve a mortgage.

If the value of the mortgage is quite high (£250k plus) then there will likely also be SDLT to pay too.

Yes you will need a solicitor to change the Deeds into joint names and there will be legal work on changing lenders also.

Changes nothing, you will still need a solicitor.

surely it changes that there would be no stamp duty to pay?
