During the process I received four letters \ emails from this company - each time adding another £50 on. I'm hoping for a reduction of all of these charges.

Disgraceful behaviour. However, somehow I am not shocked.

"We would like to apologise unreservedly to anyone affected by the historical debt collection activity ... "
"I would also like to apologise to customers affected by our system errors ... "
"We will learn from these mistakes and continue working with the FCA to build a better Wonga for the benefit of our customers. ... "
Second verse, same as the first.

This old recording must be in the top ten by now.

What they've been doing, albeit four year ago, must be verging on criminality. Is it not illegal, fraudulent or whatever?

This seems to be common practice! So many times I have researched the "lawyers" or firm threatened to take over my debt only to discover it was just another department in the same company.

A couple of MPs are asking for the Police to investigate. Seems unlikely at the moment but you never know.

Why does this make any difference?

Are people really that scared or impressed by lawyers, wonga lend to a market that has a higher default probability, so it's unsurprising that they pressure for payment.

Just avoid using them and none of this affects you.

Simple solution -- don't spend more than you earn and NEVER borrow money

It'd be good if the borrowers were also investigated. There seems to be a surprisingly large number who "lose their job" just before they are due to repay.
  • Now, don't you worry about that Bill, I have a probation meeting in the afternoon on payday which is very well timed I intend to make sure my dues are settled first! what a shocker ;)
no employer is ruining my 'credit worthiness' ROTFL

Still, don't know which is going to be the highlight of the day!
