I've got a new Neff brushed steel hob. Just used the hob wok ring for the first time last night to fry meatballs. Whilst washing up I said I was going to clean the hob but my husband said it didn't need it. Wish I had looked myself. This morning there is a black mark on the ring which is made of a kind of hard dark grey ceramic material.
I have tried cleaning it with various substances, barkeepers friend, cif cream, and have scrubbed it with a green scourer. I have metal scourers but dare not use that in case of damage. The brushed steel hob itself had a dried on blob of hardened oil which I managed to get off with lemon juice of all things but was not sure if I should be using that. It now looks a bit paler where I cleaned it so have ordered some conditioning cloths from amazon. Any ideas how to get off the mark? I just want to keep it looking nice.

I don't think I've seen a hob made of both steel and ceramic, mine have always been ceramic all over with a narrow steel border, but I clean any burned on stains with a hob scraper http://www.tdspares.co.uk/product/hob-scraper-ceramic-hobs-safety-blade-guard-high-quality-recommended-bosch-neff-siemens
It doesn't harm the glass at all and will get all the burned bits off, I don't think it would be any good on your steel bits though.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
Very often a Stanley knife blade type scraper comes with a new Ceramic hob and shouldn't do it any harm.0

Sorry, its not a ceramic hob. I'm talking about the ring that goes around the wok burner. I'm not sure what it is made of tbh. Could be cast iron. Its the ring on the bottom left.

Its dull and feels a bit ceramic though. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -
I would use Oven Pride on it.You can always test it first by just using a cotton bud size on stain.0
