Will they turn up? - possibly
You could try sending the letter to revoke their right to visit you - ( http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=23635529&postcount=60 ). But if they do intend to visit this may not reach them in time. If they do visit just say you have no intention of discussing your debts with them and ask them to leave and put anything they wish to say in writing.
What are you plans in relation to the debt? are you in a position to repay the debt? or set up a monthly repayment arrangement with them? if so then I would write to the creditor to make a payment offer.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
A lot of companies say there will be a doorstep visit but as these companies are working off 100's if not 1000's of leads it just wouldn't be economically viable to send people out in cars all over the country trying to carry out personal visits.
It is generally used as a 'frightener'.0 -
Actually only a very few dca actually have a license to do a doorstep visit. If they do call, tell them to sling their hook, they have no power to make you say or do anything.0

Yes, it's almost certainly just done to scare you. I've had several and nobody ever turned up! But even if they do turn up they have no rights, they can't take your items away, they can't enter your property, and they certainly can't make threats or overstate their rights. So just tell them to leave and close the door.
However, on the basis that you do actually owe this debt, you need to work out how much you can afford to pay them each month based on a full assessment of you income and expenditure. Then, contact them and make an offer. Remember, even in the unlikely (because it's so expensive) event that it goes further to court, you'll still only be asked to repay what you can afford. [Which is why companies will almost always accept a realistic repayment offer... They get their money without any further action on their part.]0 -
If they think you are likely to pay up, then they may send someone, these "doorstep collectors" are just self employed debt collectors, they have no more power than you or me, just tell them to go, or refuse to speak to them, they are not bailiffs.
Taking photos of them and putting them on utube is a good way to get rid of them lol

Years ago I had a letter from Scotcall saying they were going to pay me a visit. I wrote back to them and told them to basically jog on and they wrote back to say they weren't going to visit me anyway as they had no field agents in my area and it would've cost them a lot more to send someone to me than the debt I owed. So, just bluster and hot air.
That said, they could come but they have no legal rights and you don't have to answer the door to them. If you do, just tell them to sling their hook.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

I keep some leaflets from my local reclaimation yard by the front door should one of these cretins turn up.
"hello I'm a door step collector.."
"Oh here you go then.." *hands leaflets*
"go see if there are any door steps in there that you like.."
OP - SnotCrawl wont turn up. It's all hot hair. Ignore them.
Looks like it'll drop off your CRA soon anyway0 -
Your first post indicates that you have already paid £370 off this debt. Is that right? Have you made or are you making regular payments? Can you afford to do this now? Could you get a lump sum of maybe £70 together? Who are scotcall actually acting for?0
