Visit school before job application

Thanks for all the advice. We went away in holiday on the 14th and the job definitely wasn't on the council website the day before so they've allowed less than two weeks for applications. I've discovered from their website that the previous post holder retired before the May half term so not sure why it took so long to get advertised to be honest.
Gave the school a quick call this morning and the head teacher welcomed my interest but said it wasn't really necessary to visit, I'm from the local area so know of the school and I have had a good look round their website and ofsted reports. So I cracked on with my application and got it emailed off this afternoon, fingers crossed I hear something back.0 -
They quite possibly already have a person in mind for the role and are only advertising because they have to."'Cause it's a bittersweet symphony, this life

It's A possibility, but much more likely is, that like all schools I've ever worked in, they're going to want the best person for the job and have advertised publicly because that's the way to attract as many applications as possible, so they get to recruit from a strong field. At the end of the day, schools exist to give kids the best education possible, and to do that they need the best staff possible, in every function.
They've advertised on the council website, which is pretty global, and will certainly have been picked up by anyone who's interested within the LEA district. To be honest, if it really was a 'done deal' all they'd need to do is 'advertise' it vie a noticeboard in the school and they'd have met the requirements, such as they are.Reason for edit?
