Tesco "toilet tissue" and customer service woes
Hi MSE Forumites
This is as much a warning as a call for help. My wife bought some tescos moist toilet tissue several months ago. These are marketed as "tescos moist toilet tissues", and tescos branded.
On the reverse of these packs you are instructed not to flush them down "macerator or chemical toilets". No other guidance is provided.
A few of these (a handful) were flushed down our toilet (which is neither a chemical nor a macerator toilet) after being used.
This blocked the drains, spilling raw sewage all over our front garden in December 2013.:(
We ended up paying Dyno Rod £140 to clear the drains, after I had spent 5 hours up to my armpits in excrement trying to sort out the mess.
When we complained to Tesco that their "Toilet Tissue" blocked our drains, and asked for compensation for the mess / inconvenience / expense caused, their customer service apologised that their product blocked our drains (thank you), but then advised (2 months ago), that they needed to contact their supplier to check for any manufacturing faults.
Since then? No reply, nada, not a sausage.
So this is to ask forumites for advice on what will get Tesco to sort this out, and to serve as a warning of the perils of taking tesco product labelling at face value. We have withdrawn our custom for the time being, but have little other recourse, unless you can advise one? (legal, of course)
