I must admit I didnt suit a white dress....and ended up in a delicate pink one!
TBH...it wasnt a colour I had ever thought about in a million years but I guess a combination of the dress and the colour and even the choice of colour for flowers etc all took away the washed out pale colour that is my natural skin.

Having said all that I wouldnt opt for colouring up with make up or self tan etc ...
In years to come you hopefully want to look back at your photos and remember what a wonderful day it was....you will I am sure because on the day you will radiate a happiness that will shine through any pale skin tone you think you have...that radiance isnt there when you try on the dress in the same way neither is your hair done or your accessories...

on your wedding day you will be beautiful....and there will be at least one person there who is totally blown away by his gorgeous new wife..

so forget all your worries and get out trying as many dresses o as you can and even colours and subtle colour changes...because even not all whites are white and not all ivories ivory....
please dont worry about being "pale"....

I am really pale, not the nice English white, Pugh no, but red and blue and grey... Seriously I am...

Hubby is the outdoors type and always brown.

At out wedding there's a photo of me, hubby and our moh, they both look stunning, I just look washed out.

But it's me, I didn't mind, I couldn't fake it as too pale,

You can play with photos afterwards if you want, make up wise if sick to pale and not try to colour you up.

Mrs...you are far too hard on yourself!
I saw your beautiful photos you posted of your wedding and pale was not how I would have described you or your day....
Hope married life is everything you wanted it to be and more.....

Thanks for all the advice! It really is a great reassurance.

I will be getting my make up done (haven't booked it yet though) so it will definitely be something I discuss with the artist. Also the tips on photography were very helpful - again not booked (though will be by the end of the month, I hope!) but will definitely be discussed.

I really need to keep a firm sense of reality in my head when I go dress shopping - I know it's not the most flattering environment. I was put off for a bit, but need to get started with it again. Thanks for all the advice on colours - I will definitely try out a few dresses that aren't the traditional white/ivory!

I'm a pale redhead - I too have used fake tan in the past (mixed with body lotion so that the effect is more subtle) but, like Bean83, I didn't want to "randomly turn up on my wedding day looking a totally different colour"

I've gone for a pale green dress - a warm spring green rather than a cool minty one. It looks much better on me than the white/ivory.
Don’t try to keep up with the Jones’s. They are broke!

In general, very pale people look better in pure colours. Try pure white dress instead of ivory.
I am very pale (Snow White type) and in ivory or cream I tend to look grey or yellow. My dress was pure white.

The books are sitting just there on the floor.
