Downsizing reductions double whammy.
I freely admit that I am a big whinger when it comes to manufacturers downsizing products but I saw an example yesterday which really seemed to be taking the p*ss.
4 packs of Wispa are regularly put on sale for a quid at the major supermarkets. I'm pretty sure hardly any are sold at their rrp so this offer happens quite often. Over the last few months the bars have been shrunk from over 40 grams to 30 grams and consequently I no longer buy them even though they are my favourite chocolate bars. I simply won't fork out for such a massive reduction.
Well I was in one of the pound shops and could not believe my eyes when I saw packets being sold with the bars at 30 grams AND only containing 3 rather than their usual 4.
It is the first time I have seen both tactics being employed simultaneously and has further justified my decision to give up on them entirely.

Pound shops often do this, have products that are smaller, or contain less than the supermarket ones.
Tesco have 4 packs of Wispas, but they are 30g and cost £1.79. So the pound shop ones are better value.0 -
Just had a thought........
As prices go up, and pack size go down, and pound shop packs are often smaller, how far can they go?
Take Wispas, the bars go down to 30g and 3 in a pack, then the bars go down to 20g and only 2 in a pack. Do they end up selling 1 20g Wispa for £1?
Or do the pound shops change to "Two Pound shop"?
Personally, I think "One Fifty Shop" rolls of the tongue better.
Does anyone know how to copyright those two names, I may get get rich after all!0 -
And for the record "One Ninety Nine Shop" was my idea too.
Just you wait, in a couple of years the high streets will be full of "One Ninety Eight Shops", "One Forty Nine Shops".0 -
I bought a four pack of these Wispas the other week ... not because they were £1, not because they were a Wispa .... but because I was in a mood to "treat myself" to some proper tasty chocolate (not cheapo stuff which has started to disagree with me) - and I checked the £/100g price. I was interested that the cost was £1, but I only bought once the £/100g was acceptable to me. It must have been under, or close to, 60p/100g for me to have bought them as a special treat. 50p/100g is my usual "buying price" for branded chocs - and 35p/100g for unbranded chocolate.
They were lovely and tasty though ... all four of them.0 -
I want a wispa bar now... but I'm trying not to eat them!
the 30g bars suit me as they have less calories in!0
