in Cutting tax
Hi all
I earnt in total £9709.90p for tax year 2013/14 from 4 jobs,
1st employment tax code 472 M1 - earnt £4308.86 paid £1.40 tax
This is where it gets complicated :S
2nd employment tax code 155T - earnt £604.24 paid £48.80 tax
Was TUPE to new company in June 2013 so rang hmrc to inform them of new company and was advised to split tax code 50/50
P60 from takeover company tax code 472 M1 - earnt £3416.09 tax £116.80
With 1st job I got TUPE to different company for 6 hours per week in July 2013 I pay BR on this so tax code BR I earnt £1378.71 and have paid £275.60 tax.
According to the stccalculator I have overpaid tax of £388.60 bit when I rang HMRC yesterday the lady said I owe them £172.00 :O on querying this she said I would receive calculations in the post. Does this sound correct?
Sorry for the novel but I don't know how else to explain it all
Thanks

It doesn't sound correct unless you owe tax from a previous year. I suggest you await the calculations and query it again then ...Signature removed for peace of mind0

Hi sue, thanks for replying. I don't think the lady really knew what she was doing, she said at first I was due a refund and then that I owed them, because of the 155T code I had used all my allowance? When I tried to query this as I hadn't used up all my allowances from the 2 jobs she wouldn't answer me and just said to wait for the letter.
I don't owe any money from last year I had a refund then too.0 -

That doesn't necessarily follow.
If you had more than one job last year you may have had more allowancves than you were entitled to. The HMRC new(ish) system is bringing all sorts out of the woodwork and they may have caught up with you.
What is important is total earnings for each tax year and your allowances, basuically 8105 12/13, 9440 last year and 10000 this year. Your code number is irrelevant after the end of the tax year, its only purpose is to deduct the correct!!! tax of you when you earn it.The only thing that is constant is change.0 -
Yeah but I didn't earn more than my allowance last year, did have only one job but hours were cut so had to get another job, paid emergency tax on 2nd job until I sorted out splitting tax code. I have never earned over my allowance apart from this year!0

We know your side of the story, it's pointless guessing anything more, wait until the letter arrives and come back here. The only thing that is constant is change.0
