M&S 3for £10 Mix'n'Match not what it seems

Hello, a warning to fellow moneysavers here. M&S does a regular 3 for £10 promotion in its food halls - meat, fish, etc, packaged with a bright 3for£10 Mix'n'Match red sticker. Today I bought 3 items all with this sticker on but when I got home (sadly, only when I got home) I found the discount had not been given at checkout. I'd paid £4.16 more than I expected to. It turns out that there is small print that invalidates the words 'Mix'n'Match if you pick the wrong items, even if they are on the same display in the store. I picked a chicken dish, a pork dish and a pizza, all from the same display area. The first two are apparently classified as 'meat/fish' and the pizza as 'ready meal'. The words 'Mix'nMatch' are a con; you aren't allowed to mix. I think this is deceitful and I'll shop there less in future. Spread the word and avoid shysters like M&S !

It is this fear that makes me avoid "deals"..... they do set out to trick you by having small print, or different deals mixed across the shelves, or one item missing from the display (e.g. the crisps/sandwiches/drinks where the listed drinks aren't there).
You do have to be super careful......0 -
Unfortunately this is something that all shops seem to do.
They use very large, colourful displays to entice you to a bargain and relatively very small print to limit the offer so that it is nowhere near as attractive as it first appears.
They can also be very careless about making clear what is included in these deals.
However, don't expect much sympathy here as this forum is patrolled by people who think you should carry an electron microscope around with you to make sure you can read whatever tiny print the shops deign to use. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Have been caught out by this myself, I was shopping in a rush and grabbing bits for tea amongst other things and just thought the till total was a bit high because it's, y'know, M&S. Realised once I looked at the receipt on the bus home or I might have gone back in for a bit of a moan. It's obvious once you know but I imagine quite a few people get caught out by this.0

Small print?
Its like slightly smaller than the 'Mix and Match' and clearly states whats in the deal.
I have two here, one says Mix and Match Selected Cheese and Deli (not in small print, right on the sticker, slightly smaller, but very legible)
The other says Mix and Match marked meat, fish and poultry.
Call me the 'small print microscope' police but the font is maybe a size smaller, and only because theres more letters to fit in.
Its quite clear.

While agree with you that the OP should be more careful and it probably did say on the packaging, plus he could have checked at the till.
Not sure the pic you posted has any relevance as he was buying a 3 for £10 not a 2 for a £5.0 -

All the stickers are a similar format, this one is the same as the other which is 3 for £6, and the 3 for £10. Just showing what they look like as I didnt pick up that deal today.
If someone has one of the 3 for £10 stickers I would be happily corrected if they are vastly different in style, but as far as I can remember, they are not.0 -

This isn't what I was referring to when I mentioned small print in my response to the OP.
I have seen many cases in supermarkets (not M&S) where there are very large stickers either on the product or above the shelves but you have to search out and read some very small print on the shelf labels to work out what is included. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

Which seems like you had already decided who's side you were on whether it was M&S or not.0
