DFW Wedding

Hi
I'm getting married in Dec! Yay I have raised the money for the church via selling stuff on Amazon, but now need to raise the rest. We reckon we shouldn't need much more, as my parents are paying for the Hog Roast and Hall, so we have outfits, flowers and Cars. My friend is doing the wedding favours dirt cheap for me. So any tips would be greatly appreciated.

well i am very pleased to see this thread. i am hoping to get wed the dfw way early next year weas hoping to get wed on 8th december myself as it would have been 6 years to the day that we met but we have so much on it feels impossible to organise.

I have been looking at ebay for dresses. Levinchy wedding dresses and adorable kids for bridesmaid dresses. I have also noticed that littlewoods have started doing real nice ones quite cheap too. Also the invitatoin take a look at studio and cakes Asda, M & S and Tesco all do 3 size cakes and you can jazz them up yourself. The rest i need more advice on too.

  • Hi
I know so much to organise, Ace does nice personalised invites if you go for the sale ones not too bad! My mum ordered them. Are you having a church wedding or civil? Cake wise my friend is making it - suppose it doesn't hurt that my florist is a friend! but if you're wanting some nice lilac size sixteen bridesmaid dresses! Are you having flower girl? Perhaps if you're getting married after me we can loan/exchange. Am selling the lilac dresses as my girls decided to buy their own when we changed the colour to Red - festive. Moss Bross do a good offer but you can pick up cheap suits in ye old tesco! Favours - love hearts are good. Tell me what you need help with I can see what we can get when we put our heads together. I have some little cream with lilac buttefly bags - bought for me by my exes brother!? You can have if having young bridesmaids -

We are having Civil ceremony. No flower girl and only my dd as a bridesmaid. My dd has also decided on a fuschia pink dress bless her she is only 9. I may have to change it but as she is the only bridesmaid i suppose i could let her have scary bright pink. My colour scheme will be Diamond white, Metallic black and Fuschia now i think. It was going to be aubergine, then lilac oh eck! I am not good at this.

Hi guys - try the confetti website as there are loads of dafties (hope they don't take offence - i was one myself. I only say this cos they'll realise after the big day that the could have saves on everyting) on there that have bought too much of something and not used it. Or bought something and decided they want it in a different colour etc and so sell the rest.

There are also people like me selling my wedding dress on there at the moment. (PM me if your interested)

    Also check ebay for everything.

here is a list of things which helped me get along:

Booked the town hall rather than a hotel - you can get a caterer in at a fraction of the price.

If you book a hall and need to hire a bar - check yellow pages. I booked a bar that provided each guest with 2 free drinks which saved me on the toast drinks

Video - my uncle did it

Photos - i got the very basic package. Lets face it who keeps their wedding album out on the coffee table? I didn't pick mine up for 13 months!!!:rotfl:

Cake - i bought 4 tiers from M&S for £100, some tartan ribbon to rim round each tier and it looks fab

I bought all the table decorations etc on the web at a fraction of the cost. Same for fun boxes for the kids

I hired a DJ rather than a band. My friend had a band and there were lots of songs that they didn't sing. DJ suits all.

Cars - i got 2 and then got my uncle to drive his fancy one as a back up

Shop for headresses in the sales

Shoes - shop in the high street rather than wedding shops. Again shop in the sales

Invites - try making your own. I saw the ones i had in the big books which are in all the stationary shops but took note of the company who supplied the shops and went to them direct - saved a fortune

A girl i knew got married the day before me so we shared the price of the flowers in the chapel. Colours were neutral and the florist went up the next morning to change the ribbon colour

    made my own favours

Can't think of anything else but hope these give you some ideas

We had two nice pedastal arrangements of flowers which we gave to the mothers after the event as their "presents".

Try Rackhams or Beatties they do invitations and they have spaces for you to fill your personal details in. The whole of the invitations cost me about £10.00 and I bought a disposable calligraphy pen and wrote my own out.

See if there are any second hand dress shops in your local area. I had older bridesmaid and they had their dresses from Rackhams evening wear department in the sale.

    Congratulations!
We are also getting married in November, and are very excited and trying to have a great day with low costs.
We made our invitations very simply ourselves and have made all the stationary for a total of £14.
I got my dress from a shop specialising in 2nd hand dresses and it's gorgeous, and much less than half the price of a never worn dress.
We have the same plan as headoutofthesand for the wedding cake, and were given M+S vouchers as pressies when we got engaged, so seems a nice way to use them.

Will keep my eye on this thread with lots of interest!

Hi I did our wedding the DFW way without even realising it!

Didn't much like the sample invitations sent out by several supposedly professional companies so bought manuscript paper pad from John Lewis' and searched the internet for motif/design that appealed, checked computer software for available fonts and combined the three, (however have to admit that I borrowed the words from the samples already provided. Cost me the princely sum of £8.00! Also used same format and paper to print menus and rolled up with each guest name printed on reverse, tied with ribbon to serve jointly as seating cards! (several guests later asked who provided them as they "appeared" so high quality and expensive!)

Bought all dresses from Debenhams as they were high quality, gorgeous, and cheap! Did not see the point in paying lots as who was ever going to wear them again? Their tigerlilly range also does matching shoes for children at fab prices!

I did the table dressing myself using nakins provided by recetion venue tied with ribbon as on menus/place settings. Minor extavagance was mini champagne bottle of bubbles at each place setting which kept the many young guests happy for the duration of the meal! (most would class this as priceless tho!)

Hmm, our invitations/place names/thank you cards/order of service/envelopes cost us £259 for printing, plus £50 for the designer of them (my SIL) and about £8 in postage. And that printing price is short of one invoice that i think they have forgotten about!

On the one hand the invitations look awesome, on the other it's a lot of money for paper that is posted to other people!

Try TK Maxx for wedding dresses, they have some nice ones in our local one for £40.
Phone around the charity shops to see if any of them have any to sell.
DH designs and prints wedding stationery and the price of the invites is horrifying. I'd never pay that.
When we were getting married he had a big order for invites with scrolls and boxes. They then changed their minds and ordered something else and his boss said we could have them! (With our own insert in obviously)

I made all my own wedding invites. I can't remember how much they cost. We only had guests that WE wanted (rather than ones parents wanted!!) I hired a London cab to carry Me, Mum and bridesmaids to the venue, I found a local woman who was going to do my flowers for £100 (they would have been beautiful)

My Ex (we split before the wedding) was in the Army so no suits for him or his Best Man (also in the Army) It's easy to do things cheaply and personally.

Good luck and have a wonderful day.

Oh also, do you have a Monsoon factory outlet near you? I know there is one in Street and they had some lovely wedding dresses for about £125.
