So I had to recently reapply for my own position. Initially I was offered a temporary contract as I have sick leave on my record due to an operation...anywho I accepted knowing of have to go through the process again.
So last week I interviewed, but so did someone who's just joined the company, who I'm managing (yes I'd love to kick her in the shins) what's the likelihood of them choosing anyone but me? Have people been through this before? Surely if I was doing that bad a job they'd already have spoken to me?

Have I come in halfway through a conversation, here? (Quite possible as I don't read every post).
You had to reapply due to threat of redundancy, I assume? And having over 2 years' service you ARE due for a redundancy payment if they wanted rid of you. And they are supposed to redeploy you if possible.
So, are you saying your colleague has been offered the permanent post and you have been offered a temp post? I suppose (but am not sure) that this is not in itself illegal. However, the most important thing is that YOU MUST ENSURE THAT YOUR CONTRACT FOR THIS NEW POST STATES THAT YOUR SERVICE IS CONTINUOUS WITH YOUR OLD POST. Then, if this new post really IS temporary, you will be entitled to redundancy at the end of it.
I would be querying with them why, if your current post is under threat, you have not been redeployed into the permanent post rather than it being awarded to someone with no employment rights, if this is indeed the case. But maybe I have picked up the stick by the wrong end

Wrong end of the stick lol.
If I don't keep this position I will go back to my previous position. The other person hasn't got it, don't know till this week.
What I was querying was are company's more likely to stick with someone who's doing a good job and been with them for a long period of time of pick someone who's been there 5 minutes.0
