joint or single application

Hi guys
Buying our first home and currently applying for a mortgage. Unfortunately have ran into a problem.
My wife was working for my parents (a small shop) last year, but then too maternity leave (due to go back in July). So I filled out all the forms stating she was on maternity but due to go back. I have to provide a p60 to show that she'd being paid tax (which she has) but unfortunately she was given a p45! So its as if she does work anymore!
Now my parents said she can go back anytime. But I'm thinking what about my application. Is a letter from my parents (ie her employer) stating a new offer of employment good enough for the mortgage company? Or should I redo the whole thing and apply for a single application - my own income is good enough for the mortgage.
Thanks

Can't your parents just put her back on payroll? Surely if they made a mistake, they need to fix it, it's not down to you to change your plans for that. An employer can't just dismiss you like that during maternity leave. If they wouldn't have dismissed her otherwise (i.e. if they've only issued the P45 because she's on maternity leave/not working at the moment), it's automatically sex discrimination as far as I know. If they've said she can go back whenever she likes, that makes it pretty clear that they only issued it because she's on maternity leave which makes it discrimination. I'm sure it wasn't intentional but that doesn't change what it is and it's not like it's having no impact or you wouldn't be here asking about mortgages. She should still be accumulating holiday while on maternity leave too
I'd just ask them to fix it - surely they would understand that it's affecting you (and perhaps you could suggest they look up employees' rights during maternity leave).
