To cut a long story short. Have had a terrible year, partner left and also left me with a lot of debt, in my name. Lost my job and have been struggling to keep my head above water. I have been offered a job in England, currently live in Scotland. My question, if I continue struggling to pay these debts that I incurred in Scotland, can bailiffs turn up at my door in England?

Bailiffs can only act on the orders of a court, debt collectors are probably what your referring to, the answer is yes, they can, and will trace you, if you are registered anywhere for work, council tax, electoral role, you cant hide lol:pI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Instead of worrying why don't you do something about your debts?

The problem when 'moving away' is that often you inadvertently 'link' your old address with your new.
So when you tell your bank your new address or set up mail re-direction these 'links' can be seen by the credit reference agencies and passed onto DCA's.
The systems are not super clever, for example if your name is Pauline Smith and you register on the electoral roll in another part of the land obviously its not going to link you to every Pauline Smith in the country that owes someone something.
For a debt to be statute barred I think for Scotland its 5 years of no payment or contact with the lender. Have a read of these forums for more information.
Some people have had mail redirected to a mail forwarding/holding facility like MBE while moving which has been useful.
Its just remembering to have NO link between your old and new address. Pretend your a spy!
Good luck with your new job!"Killing Jesse James don't make you Jesse James"0
