just email a customer services in gereral not that particulat store and give them the sob story, no stamp needed and they normally offer some sort of compo.

All depends on who handles your complaint at their Dundee call centre. Inconsistency is rife there due to poor training, bad management, low morale, etc. Some of them will handle your problem superbly, while others are on an anti-customer crusade and will give you a load of Balunie. Drive your complaint to the top of the pile by e-mailing Sir Tel.

I'm not an expert but it was also my opinion that once money had been exchanged, the goods were yours. You could check with Trading Standards but I'm sure that's the case. I mean, if it isnt at that point, when is it? once you've left the shop? once you've eaten the food??!

I spoke to Trading Standards today, and they said that normally that would be the case, but if I have used coupons that don't say that they can be used for the item that I have bought, and the machine or person accepts them in error, then they have the right to 'pursue' me (I didn't ask to what extent). I might be slightly paranoid, but I got the impression that the underlying sentiment was, "If you are consciously trying to defraud them, then they can."
I didn't want to go into too much detail with Trading Standards about accepting coupons when the item has not been purchased, as I thought it might open a can of worms.
So, my complaint is about the way that I was dealt with concerning a misunderstanding of the coupon policy.
I'll send an email off tomorrow. Does anyone know the address to use? I looked at the Contact Us page on their website, and couldn't see any email addresses or any details for complaints.

the address they quote at the bottom of emails for home deliveries is online@tesco.co.uk. ive complained to them at that address and got a response. this might be worth a go if you cant find any other address; im not sure if it's just for online issues, or customer service in general.
