12 month contract - Will we get a mortgage?

My dh has just been offered a job in Sheffield for 12-18 months as a university lecturer. It is really too far to commute so we were thinking of selling up and moving across the Pennines t'other side.
We should have a deposit of around 35k on a sub 160k house, but as we go where the work is...we may be selling up in 12 months and heading off again.
He says he should be able to get a mortgage and would not be classed by the banks as a contractor. We would have savings of around 10k after the house bought and fat deposit paid.
Do you think we will get a mortgage, or as I suspect, it will not be as simple as dh seems to think it will be.
