Hi,
I have seen on some posts something about credit debts and 6 years. Can anyone clarify that for me? does it mean that if the debt is more than 6 years old they can't claim it?
I am asking because as in my other posts, my OH owes a lot of money. Some of the debts are more than 6 years old, the last time he was in contact with them was about 3 years ago.
Thanks.

He has been in contact with them in the last 6 years so it wont apply in your case... however if a debt is over 6 years old and you have not had any contact then yes it can become status barred after 6 years ~ you cant be chased for the cash. However you will need to write formal letters to the creditors involved.0 -
it depends on the sort of contact it was as well. If he has been paying toward the debt, or has acknowledged the debt in writing, then that does count as contact, and it has to be six years since the last time he has paid towards the debt or admitted to the debt in writing, for it to be considered as statute barred.
If they have written a letter regarding it, and he has not responded to it, then that doesn't count as contact for example.Indecision is the key to flexibility
