Do you mean your current place shuts down for 3 weeks ? How much time do you get off where by you can choose when you have it off (if that makes any sense!)

What do you mean by 2 days in the new place? How many days holiday do you get to choose in the new place (again if that makes any sense!)

  • Access to annual leave going forward would probably be a deal breaker over money now for me, grown to hate the emotive subject didn't appreciate the battlefield it can be! only thing you can do is be honest about holiday wishlist or say you have a longer notice period to cover being paid correctly which is important to your financial situation, something along these lines which may afford you a bit of time

Not every company wants a yes man or wallflower - nothing worse sitting in silence assuming (this word it's up there with obviously I know!) and that's bad enough, when it could easily have been mentioned and then dealt with as their maybe a way round it or comprimise required with not all companies and employees being the same minded

Were you asked about holidays during interview?
Did they sound desperate to get you through the door?
Are they one of them that says no time of during probation period/training period?
Are they one of these companies that only works on accured leave basis?

In manufacturing holidays are usually set throughout the year by the employer as usually the business can't run with people off at different times through out the year so its handier to set the holidays and close down all together.

Set holidays are usually 2 weeks at Christmas, 1 week at Easter, 2 weeks summer, you've then several bank holidays which are usually added on somewhere rather than taking them at the time.

So in my current job we only got 2 days this year at Easter, the remainder and bank holidays were added onto summer giving 3 weeks off in summer. This new guy is giving 2 days in summer meaning closes down for just 2 days.

I asked about summer, was told 2 days, no they didn't sound desperate, no nothing about probation etc, accrued leave no.

Then presumably you'll get more time off at Christmas and Easter next year as well as extra money from your current employer in lieu of holiday pay.

When does the leave year run from in your new and old jobs?

This is what worries me, when I started my current job in May 2010 we closed in July for holidays, I got full holiday pay which I shouldn't really of been entitled to as hadn't been there long enough to earn in, I just hope this isn't taken off my final pay check when I leave as my Mrs told me this is what her employer does, If not I should get 3 weeks holiday pay and that's me.

Generally speaking in the past I've needed to be with a company 6 months to get full holiday pay.
