Wondering if someone can shed some light on this, apparently I owe a housing association money from a property I lived in 10yrs ago. No one has ever contacted me about this debt and around 5yrs later I let a property from the same company and was still not told about this previous debt, this is now apparently an issue and I cannot rent from them unless this is paid, would it be the case of the 6yr rule here?

Unless a CCJ was obtained, if this is the case, you could apply to have it set aside as the creditor has not taken any enforcement action for over 6 years.
If no CCJ or acknowledgement in those 10 years, then yes, it should be statute barred, which does not mean the debt does not exist, only that they cant pursue you through the courts.
If you want to do business with this company in the future, then you will still have to pay it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
