Greendeal UK nuisance and dishonest calls

Options
I am plagued by phone calls from a company calling themselves Greedeal UK. Starts with a recorded message, asking you to press 2 to request an assessment. I recently got fed up enough with these calls to press 2 and swear at the person who answered (I hardly ever swear, but these people deserve all the abuse they get). They are dishonest in two ways.
First, they try and imply they are working on behalf of the government, which I am sure they are not.
Secondly, and more importantly, their recorded message says unambiguously that all households must be assessed by some date (I don't recall the date). Note the wording is not "if you want an assessment you must get it done by this date" which may well be true, but rather they are saying it is compulsory to have an asssessment.

My reading of this is that they are just trying to milk people of the £120 assessment fee. If they were honest they would say something along the lines of "the green deal may be of benefit to you and we can do the assessment for you, and there is a deadline of whatever". Of course they make no mention of any fee.

They are selling assessments. I am TPS registered, but of course they completely ignore that. And as for complaining to OfCom, well they (deliberately?) make the process so long-winded and ineffective that who can be bothered.

It always puzzles me why people think that I would buy anything from them, or have any dealings with them, when their opening gambit is clearly dishonest.

There appears to be two different companies. One website is greendeal.co.uk and the other is greendealuk.co.uk. So it's seems probable that one is a possibly reputable organisation, while the other is a scam operation. Who knows which is which? If the Green Deal was not anyway such a questionable scheme, this kind of sharp dealing would be enough to tell you to steer clear of the whole thing.

I too am getting harassed by these exact same cowboys. I get called by them daily...as you did yourself i pressed 2 to speak to an advisor who refused to remove me from their phone call register. I ended up giving him a barrage of abuse in the hope that he would mark me as an abusive caller...lets see if this works or not lol.

I have taken to cutting off all cold calls before they even start their pitch by saying "Before you go any further, I should warn you that I never respond to cold calls" and then putting the phone down. They seem to be getting the message.

Hi, we move threads if we think they’ll get more help elsewhere (please read the forum rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.

I’ve moved your thread from the ‘In my home’ board to the ‘Praise, Vent & Warnings’ board, where it is better suited.

If only we can do this with the Greendeal mob. It is a recorded message. We often have two or three of their calls in a day.

I think I will try and Press 2 next time and attempt to get them to take us off their list. Doubt if it will work but worth a try.
  • Hi, I am like everyone else on this site plagued by these calls. I have dialled 2 to tell them to take my number off, but that was a waste of time, just hung up. I am registered with TPS, I have number withheld call barring, but it is not number without is it no caller information!

If I manage to hold my temper my next step is to get an assessor out give him/her some of their own treatment.

I am at my wits end, how can all these complaints not result in action by the authorities.

Certainly gives Green Deal a bad name. I have contacted the Energy Trust and everyone else I can think off.

It used to be Timeshare and PPI now its Green Deal. Give us a rest and get a decent job folks.
  • Most phone providers let you block certain numbers after they call you hang up then pick up the phone and enter a code, this blocks all calls from that number. Ask your phone company about this.
