Mortgage query

Hi, I was hoping someone can give some advice please. We submitted our full application with Nationwide yesterday via telephone everything went well and they said we should receive offer letter in the post subject to valuation which has all been paid for. Is there still a chance it can be referred to underwriters? Or have we passes that stage? Unsure what's next?? Any help would be fab.. Thank you!

You have not passed underwriting - that is the process whereby Nationwide will decide if they want to lend to you and whether the property represents suitable security for the funds they will advance. You are at first base only at the moment.

Do you have an idea when we will pass underwriting? I thought a referred case only goes to the underwriters??advisor said we should receive offer later in the post in the next couple of weeks.. We assumed we would get offer letter subject to valuation.. ?? Thank you!

I was with Halifax but the underwriters were still looking at my application whilst they were waiting for the valuation to take place (after I had paid for it).

However, it all went ahead fine. When I wanted to know, I just emailed the mortgage advisor I had been dealing with, and asked him to clarify for me.

    He was excellent though.

To be underwritten fully then everything including the property has to stack up. Then an underwriter will authorise the offer.

My first mortgage offer with Nationwide took about 1 week. When we lost that house and found another the second took 2 hours. I think it so quick because we already had an offer on a more expensive house for a more expensive mortgage.
