Interviews.....rant

Hi all, recently back in the job market after 25 years.
First interview for a well known professional company. Did my prep etc. interview went well although location advertised for the role was not correct. Had interview nearly 3 weeks ago and not heard anything.
Phoned today for an update, no call back this afternoon......
Pretty miffed as potential employer hasn't given me an update or bothered to acknowledge.
No wonder job seekers get depressed/fed up.
Will soldier on, however will give feedback as this isn't professional.
Your thoughts or experiences?

  • Good knowing, I've had an equally strange week and not known what to make of it, I've really got to the point now when I just want to laugh and ask inappropriate stuff!

Interview 1 just wanted to talk about the current company's success...and would I be leaving on good terms!? just be my luck their probably pals with my current employer!
Call back about an application, just seemed to want to sell the salary benefits more then anything never mind getting job, I almost! wanted to say I knew there was a reason why I applied!... but held back which i bet costs me dear.. both were keen to know notice period which could change in a week...
No 3 who indeed kept chasing me says there was no role really when i eventually got past the gatekeeper but could I pop by for a chat and they will access my skills for some other unknown opening.....bet they ask why did you apply to us and I'll just laugh some more!

Anyway still waiting to hear as well, debating whether it is worth contacting, then my supervisor asks what i'll do if I don't pass probation next week  which kicked this all of to start with

I have had 2 interviews in the last 2 weeks. Neither bothered to let me know I hadn't got the job. Very rude and unprofessional in my opinion

My thoughts is how you managed keep 25 years from employment. Most people have trouble returning after just 1 year of unemployment.

The latter doesn't bother me but the former arouses my curiosity somewhat, since I have no desire to engage with a$$hole employers.

I have usually heard back either yes or no within a couple of weeks. Usually within a day or so. However, different places have different practices.

If you were unsuccessful then just take it as experience and on to the next! Now you have some interview practice ready for the next one. :)

Could be wrong but I got the impression it was a first time they'd had to job search in 25 years, not that they'd been unemployed for 25 years,

Yes, I should have been clearer, been in employment for the last 25 years, just been made redundant, so back in the job market.

Rarely will people have the manners to say "sorry mate" nowadays... It's not only rude but if you're on JSA or something, even a simple letter saying no provides valuable evidence for your case handler..

    Yes, I'm there too...
  • I always think of it especially now an employer tries to keep the door open, that's why sometimes no response? - makes it easier to re-approach people all round?

It only dawned on me after I'd been fortunate enough to be 2nd choice before now...

Anyway my no. 3 of this week was a NO show, yep I arrived at company office to be told they'll be in later.. 25 minutes later I walked out when the interviewer still hadn't arrived and as I ran the risk of being late so not only was there probably no job but also wanted to help lose the current one, can I spit my dummie out please!? How does this fare! Might see if there is a report button on the site they contacted me through, they knew I was in work too :p

Think I preferred interviews as the unemployed
