Tesco soya milk - 27% price hike

in Gone off!
Just to inform those health conscious individuals amongst us about which particular 'little bit' Mr Tesco is 'helping' us all with this time.
Last week: 1ltr = 59p.
This week: 1ltr = 75p.
No parade. No fanfare. No nice, little, yellow labels to draw our attention to the fact...
... you know... nice, little, yellow labels like the '10p off' one which they'll apply to the same product next week to try to make us think they're doing us a tremendous favour.
With help like that, Mr Tesco, 2% inflation is soon going to seem like a distant, happy dream...

A few weeks ago, they upped the price of the UHT cow's milk from 65p a litre to 95p a litre for a week, made a great fuss of 'reducing' it to 75p for a few days and then back up to 95p.
C'mon, Tosspots, do you really think we're a bunch of morons who can't see what you're doing?! If you want to drive all your customers into the arms of your competitors, just keep right on with this carp.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I see that Asda and Sainsbury's still have theirs at the 59p/60p level. What the hell is Tesco playing at? This is obviously not a feedstock/raw materials situation.
Next time I go anywhere near one of these competing stores, I shall load up with 20 cartons and save myself £3.
I used to have a soft spot for Tesco but it's rapidly fading...0 -
Talking about Tesco my local Tesco has stopped selling Seriously strong cheese and when i look at Tesco online i cant see it online either.
Is anyone else managing to buy it from Tesco?0 -
I've never been a 'Tesco Shopper' - have always preferred Asda - but after I moved 2yrs ago, it became my 'closest supermarket'
.
On my very rare visits, I've spotted lots of their prices jumping up suddenly while they continually 'blow their own trumpet loud and long' about a few pennies being knocked off some of the very basic stuff.
I'd still much rather go to Asda although it's not as convenient - thank goodness for over 60's bus pass and regular bus services!
The only things I go into Tesco for are to check out their whoopsies a couple of times each week and the occasional treat of a Costa Flat White with an extra shot

We got a £3 voucher from T. And that was because our E garage is 3p a litre cheaper than theirs0

So annoying! I usually try to avoid buying products that have had a dramatic price hike. I used to make wine from Tesco grape juice which was 85p a litre. It appeared to be out of stock for a couple of weeks, and when it did come back it was £1.85  the packaging was slightly different but it was still the same thing and tesco branded. I didn't buy it, and the next week it was on offer "2 for £3". That was an increase of more than 100% in a few weeks and I buy my fruit juice elsewhere now.
You do have to expect it though. There are a few products that will be sold very cheaply (so they can advertise that it's very cheap in their store and get you in), but that is made up for by the price hikes on other things. The soya one is not really fair on people who cannot drink cows milk and have few other alternatives than just not buying it.
I noticed the big packs of cheese I used to buy have gone down in weight from 400g to 300g, and the price increased. Sure, there's usually a "special offer" on one brand but I had to laugh at the normal price of nearly £6 last time I went in. Luckily the deli counter usually has cheaper cheese.

Can I also ask what is "health conscious" about soya milk? I'd understand someone buying it if they are intolerant to lactose, or is a vegan who wants milk on their cereal etc. But is it nutritious? Does it have calcium and Vitamin D etc? Just wondering why people would choose it over cows milk

Its still 59p at lidl. Although I buy soya beans and make it for a fraction of the price. I also make milk from almonds, coconut and oats. Cow, goats etc have to be pregnant to give milk. We take their babies who the milk is intended for, so we can have the chloestrol and puss filled milk.0
