If in a permanent job in a big uk company which has branches all over the Uk, if the manager sends the employer to work in different branches that are far away from the current branch, and they stay in a hotel for the time that they are there,

then who pays for the hotel cost?
the company or the employee, out of this pocket?

and what about fuel costs that the car uses, do the company pay for them too, usually?

btw, If the employee are a permanent staff member to that company, and not a contractor

Company does. The problem comes if they expect you to pay it, then claim it back through expenses .... as that's beyond the ability of a lot of people to pay that out up front.

I spent a number of years processing expenses for a small medical company. The company set limits on how much they would agree to back in expenses for accomodation, travel (an allowance would be paid per mile for car travel) & meals. Employees had to provide receipts for everything. No receipts, no reimbursement!

If there is any doubt on this I'd clarify before agreeing to work in a different area.

Companies should be prepared to pay for (as a minimum) all milage, 3 meals each day and the cost of the hotel.

    The company I work for pays hotel/B&B + £10 lunch + £22 evening meal.

Generally the hotel is paid by the company up front and I submit receipts for my expenses.

Company should pay all travel and a decent hotel, plus 3 meals a days on the principle that you should be as comfortable as you would be at home.

Ps most restaurants will put down a few drinks down as starters if you ask nicely ;)

The employer should. Speak to them about it.

Also speak to them to see if they can pay you a upfront allowance if they expect you to pay the costs and claim them back.
