gifted deposit inheritance

We're in the middle of our mortgage application at the moment and using a gifted deposit from my partner's late grandfather as part of our deposit. The inheritance was given as a cheque so only the cheque number shows on the statements. His auntie as the executor has written a letter explaining the money as a gift.

The mortgage company have the probate and will, however this showed £5000 was to be inherited. This was changed by his auntie after his grandfather passed. The mortgage company now want a bank statement showing the money going from his grandfather's account to his. Is this normal? Does the letter not suffice?

We're really worried about losing the house and this seems really invasive. I think my partner has a photo of the cheque. Would it help to send them that?

TBH if it's what your lender wants, there's not a lot you can do but satisfy your lender's requirements.

I don't really understand why a simple inheritance has suddenly turned into a gift, but you can only do what your lender asks.

If you state which lender this is, there may be another member who has had this happen to them before...

The will was changed by the executor from £5000 to £50000 but £5000 is only showing in the will. We're dealing with kensington for our mortgage
