Gas Company reimburse old account

I started my DMP in March so had to open a new basic bank account. I transferred all my direct debits but have had untold trouble with my Gas company, its taken the best part of 5 months to sort, so much so that they offerred me £50 compensation, only the £50 didnt appear in my new account. I queried this so they said they would do a BACS payment again. Again no money showed in my account and when I queried it, it turns out the 2 x £50 payments were made to my old bank account, one some 2 months ago.

The Gas company have asked if I still have access to my old account so I have just said no but I dont see that it is their business that I should explain about the DMP.

On the one hand I am reluctant to push it further beacuse my old account balance will have decreased by £100 - I dont know why when they made the second payment they didnt try to recall the first one, but I obviously could have done with the £50 in my new account.

Would the Gas company be able to recall the £100 payment made to the old account? I am also concerned that my old bank account might review the DMP payment if they see £100 has gone in, i.e they might think I can afford more. Should I just sit tight and see how this plays out. If the gas company recall the £100 and I get £50 in the new account then all is well as good, or as the Gas company are at fault will they just swallow their mistake and still pay me £50? i cannot understand why they made the second £50 payment without trying to recall the first one? Hope this all makes sense!

Phone up the old bank account providers and see if the £100 did go in.

Once you pay money into someones account in the way described above, you can't get it back again. It can't be charged back, or removed.

e.g if they had paid it to someone else by mistake, they don't have the authority to remove it again, they can make the bank aware of the mistake, but it's the account holders choice whether to refund it or not.

Thanks, its almost as those that did happen for the first £50, i.e. they just left it be. dont really want to ring my old bank, I wonder in this case though whether my old bank will get in touch with me if the gas company contact the old bank to explain.

The gas company are unlikely to to contact the bank.

If your old bank is part of your DMP, there's no harm in ringing them, they can't do anything more than they've already done.
