When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:

Morning hurrah for Thursday :j

I got the job! Second interview was 2 1/2 hrs long! At the end of the meeting my boss offered me the job :T 2 weeks holiday after I finish my current contract and then going somewhere I think I'll be happy :T

DFW things for today:

* checked banking
* need to sort out spends since the weekend. If I don't do it soon I'll forget!
* all meals from stores
* friend coming round to look after dgd while I work
* debating whether to work at home or go to the office - swings and roundabouts! If I don't go save time and petrol, but might be hard to work with dgd here!
* change bedsheets
* do a load of washing & hang on line
* put gammon joint in SC
* all meals from stores
* check onepoll
* vacuum & polish downstairs in a minute
* submit meter readings
* talk to oh re changing phoneline & BB provider to EE - off of Martin's newsletter
* talk to friend about childcare next week
* send friend an email to say I don't need her to have dgd tomorrow
* call foreign school re hosting students - convinced oh to do it for a while to get funds together to continue renovating house
* call plumber about starting work tomorrow
* paint the radiator tonight - jeez I really must do this at some point!

Right that's all I need to do! Have a great day :A

  • G'day gang!!

    Firstly, congrats on the new job DNMS!! Fantastic news!! :beer:

    Not a great deal from me today as will be working ALL day...
    I've got court this morning, then working my scheduled late shift plus overtime until about 4am (if the football goes well!!)... Great little earner though!!
    So here's today's little list:

    :) Work overtime

    :) Take packed lunch to work

    :) Check banking

    :) Ring First Direct and amend standing order into savings to avoid hitting overdraft this month - looked at our spending since May and we've slipped into old ways of buying lunch out, wine, socialising a bit too much etc... Time to baton down the hatches!!

    :) Apply for more overtime at Glasto at work... It's good fun and easy money so will definitely try and grab what I can!!

    :) Booked a deal on Travelzoo for date night at 55% off... Will surprise OH tonight

    :) Train at work's gym if time permits

    Think that's going to have to be about it for now - stuck with just my phone for company waiting for the trial to start!!
    Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine!!

    Lots of love,

  • Hi everyone back again second time this week. Got a busy day ahead congratulations DNMS on the new job.

    Check bank - Done ok
    Post ebay items - Done
    Go to slimming club - hopefully lost
    Make tea - been shopping so plenty of choices
    Watch the football - come on England
    Enter some competitions

    Have a fab day everybody
  • Hello all

    Fistly congratulations DNMS - excellent news :T

    Unusual day for me. Went to work this morning, felt bad leaving hubbie as he is so ill, explained to boss and am now working from home until the weekend (had to come back at lunchtime today anyway to take hubbie to local hospital for x-ray). Thanks for all your good wishes - I will be making that French onion soup tonight Foxgloves (it's one of our favourites).

    Went to Mr T's as well as the hospital, to stock up on ibuprofen and paracetamol, and spent quite a lot on nice things to try and tempt hubbie to eat something (grapes, strawberries, sweets, yogurt etc and soft drinks).

    There is nothing good about him being so ill but we are saving a lot on petrol, food (I thought it was mainly the sons who stripped the cupboards and fridge bare but I think a certain someone else also has a big hand in it judging by the quantity of food still left this week) and, it has to be said, beer. He is by no means a big drinker but he does enjoy a cold beer or two most days.

    Anyway, I'd better get on with some work - lots to do!

    Best wishes to all x

    DNMS so glad you have got the job, you must be so busy. Normal day for me. Work with packed lunch. Hospital visit to mother in another town, parked on a residential road to save parking fees. Tea from freezer. Read and watch telly.

    I washed the car by hand instead of going to a car wash. :). Then, whilst trying to replace the broken radio aerial, which I've been meaning to fix for ages, I accidently cut through two wires...now my front electric windows don't work!!!:mad:
