just want to say thanks to everyone who has taken the time to respond to me. My manager isn't the most helpful and to be honest has the worst people skills ive ever encountered so I don't think I will tell him, we have no hr department so everything goes through the manager. ive made an appointment to see my gp again next week and im going to go through everything with her. once again, thanks0

You might be better off asking that question on the benefits bit of the board as it'll depend on your personal circumstances, family income etc.
Whilst appreciating that you're looking at worst case scenarios, do you not think it's a bit previous to be looking at packing the job up at this point? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Nearly 4 years ago, I had the sudden onset of panic attacks and ended up having two weeks off work - the only sick time I have ever had since working for this company
I explained to work what was going on. I wish I hadn't as my manger was less than understanding and kept telling me it was all in my mind, and basically to get a grip. I was contacted at home multiple times per day and even had a home visit from a manager and HR during this two weeks - all the time whilst being made to feel that I needed to get back to work and get a grip - this really did nothing to alieviate stress levels as you can imagine - but nonetheless, I learned coping mechanisms and haven't had a panic attack in almost 3 years now
I feel I have been discrimated against for disclosing my issues, on the last three yearly reviews - this two week period of sickness has been mentioned in every single one. It has been documented in every review for the last 3 years, even though it is ancient history now - and hasnt effected my work for years. From time to time the manager will also bring it up, in front of a full office of people as if he wants to remind me of my 'weakness' and attempt to undermine
Furthermore, I have been (unfairly IMO) passed over for a promotion last year, in favour of a member of staff with no skills/management experience and had only been with the company for a few months.
IMO I wouldn't tell them - as some companies seem to see it all as a sign of weakness, as mine seem toThe opposite of what you know...is also true0 -
1) Have you asked them why they keep bringing this period of sickness up considering how old it is?Nearly 4 years ago, I had the sudden onset of panic attacks and ended up having two weeks off work - the only sick time I have ever had since working for this company

Yes interesting that, I have asked the manager and his reply was something along the lines of, I need monitoring incase of a reocurrance
I won't leave where I am for the forseeable future as my company pay almost double what other similar sector companies offer at the momentThe opposite of what you know...is also true0 -

Your manager needs to get a grip. 2 weeks in 4 years is nothing to worry about, he will have more sick days for other staff with colds and rubbish.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0
