Any local musicians out there ?

I bought an acoustic guitar recently and want to get it properly setup; action lowered and some frets dressed etc.

Have you had any experience, or can recommend someone ?

I can't really recommend anyone local. I left an acoustic with one guy who was recommended on another forum, it was a botch job. Got our money back, but would rather the guitar had been repaired. Reckon the silence here speaks volumes about our local 'craftsmen'!

What about our wonderful local craftsmen ( no inverted commas required) at lowden guitars, groomsport? They have a repair service as well as top notch lclassic hand built originals.

Weird tendency to run down our homeland and our neighbours on this site.

Well, when I was searching for guitar repair there were quite a lot of replies, Groomsport was never mentioned and of those who were, I took the one most often referred to. Big disappointment, and the repair was eventually done in England. While we have many superb craftsmen in many different disciplines, I was unable to locate one to do the guitar repair. It's not a case of running down local skills in general.
Perhaps the OP will use Lowden and let us know the outcome? I will certainly try Lowden if further guitar repairs are needed.

Its a Northern Ireland forum, so local to N.I. would be fine.

    Thanks for the replies folks.

Its good to hear about the bad as well as the good. I certainly don't want to end up worse than when I started, so I will proceed with caution.

In additional research I have come up with 2 possible contacts, so far, 1 in Ballinderry ( Griffin ), 1 in Portadown (Currie ). Although I don't have contact detals yet. If you have heard of, or had an experience either way, please let me know. Use a PM if you prefer.

Will look into the Groomsport option.

If you asked in Matchetts music in Wellington Place they may be able to do it or give you some names.
