These forums are for help and advice, not a slap on the wrist from... well... who are you? To be so condescending? We have all made poor choices and decisions.

You've had help and advice, you don't like what you're hearing.

Why don't you leave your address in a voicemail or send it to them in an e-mail and see how quickly they get in touch for their £1200?

So in answer again to what appears to be your only question - if you don't pay, it's DCA or a CCJ.

[and it's not abscond, that's what you've already done....it's berate]

If left unpaid, and you go on your travels youll come home to find that you've got a CCJ to deal with as youll be taken to court whether you in the country or not.
DCA's will skip trace you, so electoral roll, past provided numbers, current listed BT number and mobile phone numbers, random letters to address your known at, facebook, twitter other creditors on your credit file, parking fines discount cards are all ways to skip locate you.
By the time you get from traveling £1200 would have turned into something more substantial through court costs and admin letters sent to you through DCA's then bailiff visit costs. and if you spend long enough out the country you could end up with a empty home to come back to through repossession.

obtaining credit after this, even brighthouse credit to replace whats been taken will almost be impossible, having a mobile contract declined, Landlords refusing to take you on.

I personally don't believe that the HA wasn't actively looking for payment, My HA get rather twitchy when you fall £150 in arrears and make consistant contact, they also visit the property, HA always have ways for you to pay, DD, paypoint payment card, cheque, online allpay portal, standing order and even going to them to pay after all you handed the keys in to them why not pay then may even collect from the house during a house visit.

Is it a 'thing' here to be belligerent, patronising and sarcastic to new members genuiley seeking help and information?

Just to clarify it wasn't a housing association like if you're on benefits etc. We found the property on Right Move and paid full rent/council tax etc, so there will be no need for 'rehousing' in the future. I don't know if that makes a difference?

Most HA tenants pay their own rent lol:rotfl:

    Others need to claim HB.

The only difference between you and the others is that you have neither paid nor claimed HB.

Then you move without telling them where you are.....

Every HA has a registered address, every HA has a website, and every HA has a local office, or agent, so I would suggest that you pay what you owe.

    Lin :)
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

    £1200 arrears says otherwise.

HA's regularly rent out to working people, My Ha has houses for all walks of life, some they don't rent to benefit claimants at all.

That's true. I pay full rent in an HA property but I always pay on time. I hope these two didn't rake up arrears knowing they were going to leave and go travelling and trying to get out of paying because that is dishonest and amounts to fraud

    not quite theft.

    fraudulent actions yes.

Although I get HA CTB I put toward the rent incase theres a glitch in the HA HB payments, currently im 2 months in credit which is about what I wanted to put incase theres a lenghy delay in HB. My HA keeps asking me do I want it back as its roughly nearly £1000 in credit, but I reiterate to them its better left there incase HB decides to make errors.

I've amended my post. I just don't understand why some people feel it's ok to ask others to give them advice and help them to get out of paying money they owe. What did they think would happen asking this question on a public forum?

Just wanted to add so I don't have to again but this board is a debt free wannabe board, with people on here who are struggling to pay their debts but they are, and because they are decent enough to pay their debts they cannot afford to save and go travelling.

Think about what is morally right and pay it today, then you will be debt free and can then start saving to go travelling.

My contribution is to warn that if you do go travelling and dont leave a forwarding address you may find that the HA goes to court to get a County Court Judgment against you at the last known address they have you.

You then come home to find a trashed credit record for 6 years after the CCJ is granted, and you cant credit anywhere.

If you decide to get the Judgment set aside you have to provide a current address to the Court, which will also be passed onto the HA.

The HA can then restart Court action at your new address and you get a CCJ again , for 6 years, unless you can pay it off in full within 30 days of Judgment being granted.

    Hope this helps.

You can only get a judgment set aside if you didn't receive the claim form AND you have a good prospect of defending the claim.

Whereas OP has no hope of defending it.
