When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of big "stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the Gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free...

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:

Morning guys :wave: Hope you're all well & happy hump day :j Jeez I'm so unprofessional at the moment! Can't wait for the next week & 1/2 to go by as it's not like me to be so tardy in work but I just can't muster any enthusiasm to do anything other than the bare minimum! :o

Interview went very well yesterday. It was long! I had to have 1 interview with a panel of 4 customers, then consider a workplace scenario (imagine going to work and all hell had kicked off while you were off duty, a number of high priority things to deal with) and write a plan of action to discuss in the interview. Then I had an hour interview with 2 members of staff & 2 trustees! It is now between me and another candidate and I have been asked to go back today for a more informal meeting :j fingers crossed I come across well and they feel like they can work with me. I want this job so much! I just felt when I was there it was the right one for me...

Anyway sorry about the essay!

DFW things today:

* checked banking
* need to work out sums, shift funds & update ss
* go to aldi & get a few bits - stick to list!
* worked out expenses for the last couple of weeks
* dinner from stores - Rubber chicken risotto I think
* last of crumble & hm apple & peach crumble
* going to buy lunch & claim it back on expenses :D
* check tyre pressure - didn't get chance to yesterday & petrol is going at an alarming rate!
* oh removing silicone tonight
* job search
* paint radiator
* write & post letter. Must do this today! Recycle envelop & stamp ;)
* speak to oh re changing phone & BB provider as per martin's newsletter
* submit meter readings
* going to look at a pushchair for dgd after work found on preloved for £22.50. However someone has come back to me about another one on facebook. Am seeing if she'll take £15

Ok think that's my lot! Have a great day x

Thanks for the start DNM and fingers crossed for a positive outcome!

So time to get on with the day.

Today - some work
Plumbers booked for tomorrow so I'm off to the flat in the land of the lino and do some more packing whilst I await their arrival. We're looking at a new boiler (money in bank from remortgage waiting for it) so we're shopping around.

Thanks Martin you made it pretty easy to compare them all.

Today
Work
Banks
CC's
Bit cooking
Bit gardening _ NO gardening done yesterday due to beach scampage, bad pippi.
Lots of things to pot or they won't grow and feed us.
Must put some more pictures up here and start to empty bags of clothes into wardrobe/drawers as the spare room is a bit epic at the mo.
Shop around online/look for ideas for a garden eating table - want something chunky and substantial, might check out the second hand places happy with an indoor table which I can varnish or look at recycling pallets?
Walk les mutts
Take post to older folks at the back and maybe a wee something to say thank you for being so kind as we arrived.
All meals from the stores
Bit handwashing laundry
Bit tidy up in garden
Sort out chainsaw as off to saw down a hedge tomorrow whilst in the neighbourhood at TRG's for a chum who helped us unload the van
Text the lass about the mower and get that moving to get paid
Text chum in linoland and see if she fancies a cuppa at her house (free cuppa )

I think we'll have HM flatbreads** and chilli or fajhita's for tea.

Also ponder housewarming/birthday for OH - he's in two minds as he's keen to see everyone but worried having a housewarming is a bit 'look at us' showy-offy.

I can see his point and wouldn't want to offend folks, but he's so happy here, its lovely to share with folks.

It shouldn't cost too much as I'd say bring a plate and a bottle (we aint rich after all) but he's scared its a bit too braggy. On the other hand its also his birthday soon and his family will all likely descend, so rather than fire-fight an invasion, I thought we'd be a bit 'pro-active' that way it might cost less. (always the moneysaving!)

Does that make any sense?

Anyhows OH isn't exactly a shrinking violet and it might give him chance to wear his wedding cape again

Happy for any thoughts lobbed this way for this one.

**HM flat breads**
250g (8oz) plain flour (I use SR as its a bit fluffier)
Pinch salt (optional)
1/4 pint water (150 ml)

Mix well and knead for a tiny bit until you're bored, roll out like a sausage - cut into 8 chunks and roll each in your hand to a ball. Flatten out by hand or use a rolling pin as thin as you can.

Hot pan, no oil, 30 secs each side when cooked nestle between a teatowel on a plate to keep warm or scoff from pan. Whole process takes about 20 mins from start to finish. they don't keep well as no preservatives but if you've any left over freeze, or use the next day. Also make great super thin pizza bases.

One lot of these and you'll never buy packet flatbreads again out of choice. And at 45p for 1.5kg flour in supermarkets, they cost around 7.5p to make 8.
Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there. :beer:
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:
minus 112.06 = £7755.32:money:
:money:Sleeves up folks.:money:

• Hello all

Hubbie has been to docs this morning (still was feverish) and he has pneumonia :eek:. I only had bronchitis and felt like I'd been run over by a bus (and I am still coughing!). Feeling slightly guilty as I'm sure the illness came from me and I was just beginning to feel a bit sorry for myself having to do everything. Gave myself a bit of a (mental) kick up the posterior as there are lots of folk who have to cope with much worse. I just need to stop worrying about the house being a mess and the things I haven't managed to do and concentrate on getting him better.

So my days are very busy with dog walking, work, meal making, washing up, laundry etc.

I have managed to check bank accounts (am paranoid about doing this since our accounts were hacked earlier this year) and we are eating all meals from home but I don't think I'll have time for much else.

Didn't manage a NSD yesterday as hubbie fancied some H@einz tomato soup and, as he hadn't eaten anything for a couple of days, I sent son to Mr T's to get some. And he managed to eat some which is good.

Going to eat my salad now.

Hope you all have a good day x
• Afternoon lovelies!!

Firstly, big apologies for lack of activity on the thread... Have been keeping up with the regulars on Facebook, but hardly been on here! We've had a busy few weeks, but really need to knuckle back down to posting regularly, as it really is the small things that make the biggest difference!! :)

Since coming home from Sri Lanka, we've probably become too relaxed with money and spending is starting to get a bit silly again.
It's funny how when you have a goal and focus how easy it is to cut back - we were saving £800 a month before Sri Lanka... Where is that money going now?!? :eek:

I'm sitting down today to do a revised SOA with a longer-term goal in mind of saving for a house deposit and hopefully our next big trip, which will be Cuba 2016.
Also need to find some money for something a bit special for OH's 30th in Feb (but she can't know about this, so even more of a challenge!!)

Haven't really got a list today as will be looking at the magic numbers, working out where we are right now and where we're hoping to be!!

Lots of love,

Shoot! X

Afternoon all,
Really busy day. These are the money saving bits of it:
*Saved energy by doing the ironing very early before the cheap tariff swapped over. Switched off for last garment.
*Baked a loaf & a tin of jammy buns to take on our camping trip, also bread rolls.
*Packed a picnic for the journey....plus extra supplies. For some reason, putting a tent up makes Mr f very very hungry!
*Put flask out ready so we remember to take some coffee. This is a camping trip on a budget & paying £4 or £5 every time the two of us fancy a coffee just can't happen.
*Mended cardi & dress - I thought one of my boobs kept trying to escape when I wore this dress at last weekend's festival. Mystery solved. It had ripped. Now mended! :-)
*Made pizzas for dinner using the last of the rubber ham hock.
*Picked homegrown lettuce & radishes.
*Water veggie garden.
*Find torch ready for snail hunt tonight. There is a rogue one in my greenhouse. It's already snarfed half a tray of basil & it has now turned its attention to my aubergines. An appointment with Mr f's size 11s, I think.
*Find cat litter tray if it didn't get used for something else. Don't really want to buy yet more plastic.
*Topped up worm composter again. Love that we get free compost & liquid plant food from kitchen scraps.
*Picked bunch of sweet peas.
Must finish off the last few things, then my knitting can come out.
Solvencyseeker - Crikey, pneumonia! French onion soup excellent for lergies involving respiratory system & v v cheap to make. I did wonder if your OH maybe had flu. I had it in Jan (hadn't had it for 30 years!) & the fever completely floored me for 2 weeks. But pneumonia! Hope he picks up soon.
Bye for a while,
F x
2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!
