O/S Daily Wednesday 18th June 2014

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

hilstep - Sorry you are having such a tough time. Much love and many hugs for you.
Meanmarie - You are allowed to be very proud. Well done to your DS.

    Hugs to those in need.

The zoo yesterday was really good but a little hot. Only problem was that the children are more interested in playing at the playparks than looking at the animals! Got to see the pandas who were asleep, quite boring really!

Had taken sausages out of the freezer yesterday so we had those with salad for tea, couldn't cope with cooking anything else it was so warm.

DS2 asked if I could take photos of his degrees for his new job so I had to go into the loft to get them and boy was that hot, like a sauna! He owes me a big G&T for that. DD says he is coming home next week so I should see him before I go on my travels.

Washing and ironing up to date, house not too bad. Take care. XX
  • Good morning all,

Weather lovely here at the moment, just having raspberries and yoghurt for breakfast.

Hillstep I am sorry chemo made you feel so ill, hope you are feeling a little better now.

Off to DD today to do her housework, i.e. changing bed linen and remake bed, clean bathroom and Himself will hoover throughout the flat. She will then be nice and clean for when we go away on Saturday. These are the only jobs she can't do yet because she mustn't put her full weight on her right leg until the bone has healed properly. She is a good girl (45):) and never moans.

Our washing is up to date so not enough to put the WM on today.

Have a good day everyone and hope the weather is good for you, but perhaps not too hot.

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, cloudy, dull and overcast, also wet underfoot and still raining a bit.

DH up and getting ready for work.

Dinner last night was pork chops, mash, veg and gravy. Not sure about dinner tonight, but I do need more milk and bread and a couple of other bits – that can’t wait until shopping on Friday. Will stop off at the SM on the way home from work at lunchtime.

Work yesterday wasn’t particularly busy – just feel more concerned that the changes are putting pressure on those that are left to deal with the public, and I could be more use doing that than being at the other office answering telephone calls that are few and far between. I will find out today how they got on yesterday – myself and another colleague go to the other office on a Tuesday – all my other colleagues go on different days. At least today I’m only working until lunchtime then I’m on days off until Monday.

When I get home later, I have a couple of jobs to do on the way home and then the normal chores once I get back – put a load in to wash as yesterday was so lovely after a grey start – and typically, its grey and raining this morning! Will leave washing in machine and hope it’s better later then put it out on the line.

Local Police have arrested 2 men locally regarding the murder of an elderly lady in her own home – it happened not last Christmas but the 1 before and they just haven’t been able to catch anyone – hoping they have got the right people and at last those responsible will be dealt with in the appropriate way.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all,

Have taken the day off sick I am still full of cold and cant move my head, my neck seems to have 'locked', think its best I am not round food and people today.

Looks like it might be a nice day here will put a wash on and not much more. Dinner will be some sausage rolls I found lurking in the freezer with some wedges and sweetcorn.

Hilstep I am so sorry your treatment made you feel so rough, hope you start to feel better soon xx

Marie well done to your ds, you have every right to be proud !!

    Have good days all xx
  • Morning everyone, had such a lovely day with DD and the Zebra child yesterday and got to take him for a nice long walk during which he didn't cry at all, just chatted away with me and everyone else we passed, he's getting to be an absolute poppet.

HILSTEP hope you are feeling a bit better today. so difficult when you HAVE to take the medication and it makes you feel so dreadful, wishing you better days in the future. MOLLY hope you're still managing the situation and not to the detrement of your own health either, stay strong love, it will get sorted eventually.

Planning a trip to my lovely local greengrocer today to stock up on fruit, we seem to be eating masses in the warm weather and thier produce is super quality and even better at prices I can afford. Nothing nicer that a lovely bowl of fresh fruit and greek yoghurt for supper when you can't face cooking!!!

Have a good day everyone, Lyn xxx.

    Morning all,

late to bed last night, late to get up this morning unfortunately. Millie dog getting me up twice to pee didn't help either sadly. Her bladder is almost as bad as mine but at least ive got an excuse (water tablets).

Hubby at work, 'Youngest' at college. 'Youngest' is hoping to finish his assignments today and then he will have finished college completely this year. I'm not sure what next year will bring. Whether he will be back at college or doing an apprenticeship. He's not been given much careers advice at college unfortunately. As for getting an apprenticeship.... he doesn't have a clue. This I think is where his Dad comes in. Thing is, he does seem to take over and go over the top.

Not long heard from my Daughter in South Africa. The house the girls were moving into with the baby house has fallen through. Back to square one house hunting for them.

Not much else to add really,

Onwards and forwards (no kick up the bum needed today I think),

    Have a great day all.

    Hi everyone,

Hilstep, I hope you are feeling a bit better today.

Hester, lovely pics on Facebook, your daughter is very pretty. After our comments on our first names being the same it seems our DH's have the same names too.

DD sent a message last night, she's been invited to see the Eagles at the O2. I'm very jealous, DH and I saw them in1977 and then again when they did their comeback Hell Freezes over Tour (because they said they'd only get back together when hell froze over). I was looking round the audience at that one thinking everyone looked so old and realising that we did too!

I must, must, must, do a bit more housework today, I've been so lazy. Gok Wan's garlic chicken for dinner, DH's fave, it is very yummy.

    Have a good day.

    Morning all,

Congrats to Mean Marie's DS, well done:T
Redruby, I don't like the sound of your stiff neck, make a doctors appt

Off to Sheffield tomorrow as our youngest is hoping to do his Biology degree there, fingers crossed he gets the results he needs.
I made a huge chilli last night thinking I would freeze half. Unfortunately every man and his dog turned up for tea and youngest DS and his gf ended up having leftovers with nachos and cheese for supper. Ah well best laid plans.
Our DD is so ready to move into her own home. I'm ready too. We get on fine but at 28 she needs her own space. She is hoping to move first of August, they are viewing a property tomorrow, fingers crossed.
I lost another three pounds last night at SW. I'm very please, into the next stone down and people are starting to notice. Everything feels a bit looser. Really hoping to be at goal for November and my Australia holiday, hopefully baby Amelia will only know her grandma as a slim one :D
A few jobs to do today and an eBay parcel to post. I think I'm going to give up selling clothes. I'm making less and less, people want to pay nothing even for very expensive brands which I understand but it's just not worth my while with postage, petrol to the post office etc. I'm going to stick to selling bigger items as I seem to do ok on those.
This afternoon I'm going to tackle the rubbish drawer in the kitchen, you know the one you can't open full of stuff that everyone needs but you can't find anything! I've seen a tip on you tube about using plastic containers that you get with foods and using them to organise the drawer. I shall take a picture if it goes well.
Anyway onwards and upwards, Happy Wednesday all x
