Valuation Survey

Just need some clarification;

valuation...its just this correct? or will they see if its structurally sound?

Would it be wise to get a structural survey - companies are requesting 500.00ish

    It depends on what you're buying and what your attitude to risk is.

    A valuation is just for the lender's benefit, to tell them whether the property is sufficient security for the loan. i.e. whether they are likely to get their money back if they had to repossess.

    A survey is for your benefit. There are a couple of levels: home buyers, and structural. As mrginge says, the selection of any or either will depend on what you're buying and your risk level.

    What are you buying?

    I'm buying a house that is only a few years old and I'm just having the valuation, however if it had been an older property i would have got the homebuyers , and if very old the full structural! Only word of warning is that anything other than the valuation can be costly and so it's important to get somebody reputable as some are pretty inaccurate and can even raise probs that don't actually exist !
  • Its a 3 bed house, bottom of a hill, brick, for the sake of 500.00 i might as well get one

    thanks

    Get homebuyers report as a minimum.

    A full structural or building survey is normally only used where the property is particularly, old, unusual build type, listed status, major renovations, poor state of repair, or similar particular circumstances.
