Hi All,
When you call in and report off sick, does the employer have to pay the full pay for certain amount of days before moving you to sick pay or they can put you on sick pay from day 1 even if it is one day off work ?
Thanks

Statutory sick pay is not payable for the first three days. So, if you only get SSP then you get nothing at all until day four.
If you get company sick pay then this is normally payable from the first day. However that depends on the company policy.
Many company sick pay schemes are "discretionary" these days which basically means they can decided whether to pay you or not (apart obviously from SSP from day four).0 -

A fair number of employers have moved their company sick pay to match the SSP system so you get nothing for the first 3 days. Its designed to deter one day "sickies" on the basis that if you are ill enough you won't care about losing the days pay and if you aren't then losing it might deter you from faking it.Adventure before Dementia!0
