For those tempted to research their family history, here is an interesting '£1 for a one month subscription' offer from Find My Past:

http://www.findmypast.co.uk/content/Football-2014

Remember, though, to un-check the 'auto-renew' box in your 'My Account,' if you don't wish to continue the subscription at normal price.

Judging by Martin's Twitter feed, watching football may be becoming 'painful' for some and an alternative pastime may bring welcome relief.

Either you're not searching right or your family have used different names in the past.

FMP is a very comprehensive site.

Like Scottish ancestors Irish are hard to find on these sites. There is one called I think Irish roots as I have Irish ancestors but don't have enough info to take out subscription .
Please make sure you cancel your subscription if you don't want to do it. You might be charged if you dont

I did mine on Ancestry and Scotlands people but can it work out expensive. Ancestry have special offers on at times So if interested watch for that coming up.

No I'm using it correctly and my family haven't used different names. Just seems that this site doesn't have much information for Irish connections, as the other poster suggested also.

I've just signed up for a month with Ancestry again. They've an offer atm for £5 a month for 4 moths. I was much more successful on that one at the start of the year :rotfl: Well for one part of the family. The other part, who incidentally I don't speak to, have fallen off the face of the earth:rotfl: Shame some members didn't get the memo:o

I have cancelled the subscription via the do not re-new way. Will be keeping an eye on that though.

And also thanks for the tip on Irish Roots and Scotland's people. It seems my family originated from there which none of us knew lol. Will look into them both. Thanks again :)

The www.findmypast.co.uk website offers Britain or Worldwide membership (with the £1 offer being restricted to British records).

For Irish research, including those counties which are nowadays part of Northern Ireland, you need either Worldwide membership of any of the FindMyPast websites or, Irish membership of www.findmypast.ie (who are currently offering a 'one month for one euro' subscription on Irish records or, as with their other 'sister' sites, a 14 day free trial - both of which require you to un-check the 'auto-renew' box if you do not wish to continue membership at full cost).

Remember too, for Irish research of now Northern Ireland counties, you can find records at, amongst others, www.proni.gov.uk , https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk/ and http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/ .

For US records, see www.findmypast.com (and currently a '1 month for $1' offer there).

And likewise for AUS/NZ see http://www.findmypast.com.au/.
