murder mystery night?

Hi all

I've been asked to find out about a murder mystery night at a hotel or stately home, for a birthday celebration coming up this autumn. I'm not actually sure what this is (!) can anyone enlighten me?

Has anyone been to or organised one of these events?

A murder mystery weekend is basically where a group of guests stay in a big stately house and partake in a staged event. Basically there will be lots of actors in the house who will act out a murder, and then you will all need to play along with the investigation which follows, the guests will be partaking in this. It is all set up from start to finish. There will usually be someone acting as a detective trying to gain alibies and looking for clues.
It is often scripted from start to finish - and you will all be given characters to play.
It is basically a big game of Cludeo!


If you google Murder mystery weekends it brings up lots of venues across the UK.

Thanks, I think they had in mind an overnight thing rather than a weekend.

Are they very expensive?

Google would be your best bet to answer that question. Prices differ with each venue, and there is also the option of hiring your own venue (such as a holiday cottage, old church, stately home) and booking a team of actors who specialise in this area.
If you put Murder Mystery, and the town you are thinking of having the night at in to Google you should find a fair few pages of companies that offer them.
