It described what the prize was though... a photoshoot and a framed product worth £259.

Unless it's framed in solid gold or 20 foot wide you know what you are getting... a framed photo. Regardless of what value it is worth or what is paid for it.

I'm not denying it's a bit of a scam but I'm just saying that a competition was entered to win a photoshoot and a framed photo and that's exactly what they'll get. Nothing worth complaining about. It doesn't matter if someone else can go pay £35 for the same or 99p.

The issue is that if the product can be purchased for £35 (or free) then it is not worth £259. I think my wife expected more than a tiny photo and hard sell, especially as the company holding the competition are reputable.
  • She didn't get a hard sell though, because she didn't turn up.

Regardless of the cost of the price if you had gone you would have gotten the photoshoot and a free photo, which is what they said you would have. I do admit these things are a way of making more money (mum has experienced them in the past) but I think you've cut your nose off to spite your face by not going.

If a company offers something as "worth £259", when it is unique to them and they actually sell it for £35, then it is self-evidently not "worth £259".

They probably do some photoshopping and post production on the images. Who's to say the time taken to do all that isn't worth £200 to them but they sell the pictures for cheaper hoping the customer will buy more.

There are many competitions where a value is given to a prize (rrp or just appears to be made up) that is far above what anyone would actually need to pay for it if they went to buy it, at the moment this lot have a special offer that you can buy a photo package for £35 that they say is "worth £245" so they can properly quote £245 as a prize value if they wish.

Many of these photo "prizes" involve high pressure sales and the best way to avoid them is just to use a local photographer other people have recommended.

I have been to one of these, you do get the 'makeover' session and one photo for free, but they do push you to but more, you have to be very determined to say no. They show you lots of great photos to try to tempt you, but you can still leave with just the small one that you won - then go and get it copied or enlarged somewhere cheaper. Or you can choose a few then when they tell you the (extortionate) price you can say no, and they may try to negociate a lower price. That worked for me, I got an extra four photos for less than quarter of the price they had originally quoted when I got up to leave with my free one, the price came down several times before I agreed. Worth a try!
