Nationwide fee-advice please

hi everyone I'm after a bit of advice please, I got a statement through for our joint flexaccount and attached to it was the usual charges statement for interest as the account is always in overdraft (which I've recently lowered from £350 to £300 yay) anyway there was also a £21.50 'cheque card misuse fee' a cheque for £18.90 came out a day before my wages cleared and as a result this caused it to go £8.11 over the limit (there was also 2 debit card transactions, one for £15.52 and one for £89.33 but they obviously arent bothered about that!)
Now, charging £21.50 for an £18.90 cheque causing the account to go £8.11 over the limit seems a bit unfair to me (even HSBC dont do that!) so I called them but she said theres nothing she can do, they couldve bounced the cheque which apparantly wouldve cost more, and has suggested I write to them. I'm useless at writing letters so what do I write?? help!!

she is however wrong on one bit:
They CANNOT bounce a cheque that has been guaranteed and correctly presented. Hence the Cheque GUARANTEE card. (you signed in the presence of the recipient, and THEY wrote the number on the back etc)
Nationwide are as inflexible and intransigent as it is possible to be! We have an entire file of correspondence and nothing we said stopped the patronising responses, or returned our fees.
We have however opened our parachute account.......:D and will fight them!0 -
lol not your favourite company then? i think she said that the reason they didnt bounce it was cos it was guaranteed but i think that charging £21.50 for going £8.11 over is a bit harsh
