I've been saying this since Michelle Fowler in Eastenders was a student and single mother - yet raised a mortgage on her Albert Square house.
Yes, this has always amused me. Apparently Albert Sq was partially based on Fasset Sq in Hackney. Nothing I could see for sale right there, but this is what a 3 bed costs one road over:

It's years since I've watched Coronation St (Blanche was the only reason for tuning in), but it did use to strike me how nearly every character worked about 30 m from their home; in the pub, in the caff, in the bookies, in the garage, in the corner shop, in the knicker factory. They could all apparently afford their rent/mortgages on these minimum wage shifts.They are an EYESORES!!!!0
