Signed off - what money should I have got?

Me and OH were due to sign on Wednesday but OH got a phone call at the weekend offering him work and they wanted him to start on Monday.

He filled in his signing off form and I took it into the job centre and explained everything to them. My advisor got me to sign the usual form but then said she was unsure what to do as if she just entered it on the system I would get 2 week money which obviously I was not entitled to.

I know she has worked there for over 10 years so was a bit surprised that she didn't know the procedure as we cannot be the first people in the same situation.

Our money always is in our bank on Saturday morning but, not surprisingly, there is no money in there today. Surely we should get 1 weeks money as I thought JSA was paid 2 weeks in arrears?

I know it is not much but OH will not get paid until the end of the month so we could really do with it to get us through (he will need fuel for the car at least)

It will be a delayed payment as you have had a change so close to the payment and signing dates.

You will get what you are owed, just usually a couple of days later.

If you get other benefits such as Housing benefit/local housing allowance, call them today (most are open on saturdays) to see if you can have a 4 week run on to help with the rent.

And on the advisor; they change the procedures quite frequently therefore she was informing you that she was unsure of what to do - it will be processed, just give it time to actually be processed.

You might also get things like working tax credit whilst your OH is in work - check on either the turn2us or entitledto calculators (the HMRC helpline is chocka as it is renewal time).

Thanks for that. Just panicking that we won't have enough money for fuel for OH to get to work but as long as we are going to get some JSA that makes me feel happier.

I should have asked the advisor although I don't think she would have known. I guess I just thought there was some way she could input the details into the system and we would receive 1 weeks money

I'll look into working tax credit but doubt we will be entitled to it as we never have been before even when OH was earning very little
